Who We Are
The Institute for Shock Physics (ISP) is a multi-disciplinary research
organization with an emphasis on shock wave and high pressure
research.
Vision and
Goals
We present a strong national resource for shock wave science and
related
applications by:
- Emphasizing innovative
research, scientific excellence, and programmatic relevance.
- Producing outstanding
graduate students and postdocs; involving undergraduate students.
- Fostering strong
partnerships with the U.S. Department of Energy Laboratories.
- Continuing a strong
participation in the U.S. Department of Defense programs.
- Developing
non-defense and commercial applications.
We
strive to accelerate within the field of science, primarily fueled by
passion
for discovery. With scientists and students from the University's
physics,
chemistry, and engineering departments and long-term funding for
research,
Yogendra Gupta, director of the Institute, says, "We have a terrific
amount of freedom here to do what we want to do...The fact of the
matter is we
are about scientific excitement...This is a passion, not a job."
